THE WEEK

This week ran from the cover of Issue 6 to the book that gave me my buckets. In between I wrote about who a founder pays last, asked who sends money home and how it moves, reported what a spending category quietly does, and ran the coffee cliché honestly on Saturday.

Two of you picked up the thirty days I negotiated with the printer at Issue 6, from opposite ends. Lisa wrote that cashflow is "such a challenge for small businesses", one she wishes "the big suppliers understood when they wait until day 30 or beyond" to pay. I was buying thirty days to pay, and Lisa is the one waiting thirty days to be paid. Neko took it somewhere I never went, and wrote that financial institutions "should assist with bridging finance" for business ideas that are working, provided you bring a cashflow forecast. I ran Stella's gap on supplier credit and two new advertisers, and I had no loan behind it at any point.

So this week I'm asking the question Neko's reply opens. If you've applied for bridging finance for a small business here, at a bank or a savings and loan society, tell me what they asked to see and how long the answer took, and I'll report what you send. Nobody wrote to me about family this week, so that question stays open too: if you send money home, or live on money someone sends you, tell me how it moves.

One change starts on Wednesday, and I planned it before Day 1. From Day 31, two posts a week will reach your inbox: Monday's long story, and Friday's Borrowed post on the money books. I'll keep writing every day, and all seven posts will keep going up on wildmoneypod.com.

As always, if you have a topic you'd like me to explore, write to me.

And Abigail, who keeps every copy of Stella out of reach of two young boys and their markers, is waiting for "the day Stella gets her groove back."
